We are making good progress integrating the operations of Hino Motors, Fuso and Daimler into a new, global truck manufacturing and marketing company even though it is a complicated process.

“We are making good progress integrating the operations of Hino Motors, Fuso and Daimler into a new, global truck manufacturing and marketing company even though it is a complicated process. It will result in significant benefits for all involved – including our customers - in terms of joint research and development, procurement, and production,” commented Satoshi Ogiso, President and CEO of Hino Motors Limited in Japan.

“Time to put the final structure of the new business model in place is short though, as the details of the new company will be announced on 1 April 2025,” Ogiso added.

This was the video message screened to attendees at the opening of Hino South Africa’s media briefing, ‘Crossing Boundaries Together,’ held at the Gazoo Racing headquarters at Zwartkops Raceway, near Pretoria, recently.

“Importantly, the Hino distribution network in South Africa and its retail model will remain as they are currently,” explained Anton Falck, Vice President of Hino South Africa. “In fact, differentiating ourselves from our competitors through the international ‘Hino Total Support’ strategy will become more important than ever.”

“Hino SA, through its parent company, Toyota SA Motors, has been a significant player on the South African truck market for more than 50 years. We share confidence in the future with our parent company and continue to adapt our strategies, products, and services to suit changing trading conditions locally. The key to the success of the Hino brand remains its reputation for outstanding QDR – quality, durability, and reliability – backed up by outstanding aftersales service and customer care,” commented Falck.

“Our ongoing leadership in the quarterly Datatrack customer satisfaction surveys, where Hino has now been ranked No 1 overall in Comparative Customer Satisfaction since March 2020 here in South Africa, underlines the effectiveness and dedication of our dealers to always put our customers first.”

“Hino once again earned the top position, a Platinum Award, for the fifth consecutive year, in the recent annual National Automobile Dealer Association’s (NADA) Dealer Satisfaction Survey, reflecting our dealers’ ongoing appreciation of the efforts made on behalf of the Hino brand and their confidence in future returns.”

“These ongoing successes over a long period of time have resulted in the Hino brand building up a loyal client base with a committed dealer network which now numbers 66 outlets countrywide. Despite the challenges faced by OEMs and the dramatic changes in sales results for several OEMs, this has allowed Hino sales to remain stable. As a result, our ranking in terms of market share has improved from fifth position in 2023, to fourth position in 2024 and for this year to date our share of sales puts Hino third overall in a highly competitive market.

“Now we are also incredibly pleased that we are now able to augment our ‘Hino Total Support’ promise with a six-year driveline warranty. This is another major benefit for owners and operators in assisting them to reduce and contain operating costs. This warranty will be standard when purchasing and operating a new Hino in South Africa, without additional cost for the owner. In fact, the warranty is being implemented retrospectively to all trucks purchased since 1 January 2025. Importantly, the warranty is transferable if the truck is sold within the six year term,” explained Falck.

“We believe this truck industry-leading warranty, is an initiative that is more than just an increase in the warranty cover. It is a vote of confidence in Hino’s engineering and manufacturing standards, backed up by a nationwide network of 66 Hino dealers with highly skilled technicians to conduct the specified service and maintenance tasks according to global Hino Quality Service standards.”

There are generous kilometre restrictions on the six-year warranty, depending on the specific model. The validity of the warranty is, of course, dependent on adherence to servicing according to recommended mileage intervals, or in the case of low annual mileage, servicing every six months.

In conclusion, Anton Falck announced that Hino South Africa is pleased to announce that Hino will continue to back its QDR (Quality, Durability and Reliability) reputation in public view by once again entering a truck in the gruelling 2026 Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia.

“This is undoubtedly one of the toughest tests of vehicles in the world and Hino remains the only Japanese truck maker to enter the event. Hino has been an entrant for 34 years and on each occasion, it has qualified and finished the race. Certainly, a proud record!” concluded the Hino Vice President.
