Hino Kuilsrivier has solidified its reputation as a leader in the industry by clinching the coveted Hino Dealer of the Year award for the first time. While the dealership has previously received numerous accolades from Hino South Africa for excellence in sales, parts, and service, 2024 marked a historic milestone where all those efforts culminated in topping the national stage.

The South African Hino Dealer of the Year Award was first presented more than 20 years ago and is a highly prized accolade for overall performance by the winning dealership. It is awarded annually on a comprehensive set of metrics on which each dealer is measured monthly throughout the preceding year. These measurements include customer service, environmental protection, financial performance, and vehicle sales as well each dealer&rsquo;s performance in the parts and service areas of its operations.
The awards form a pyramid, beginning with performance and efficiency in all areas of operation and categorised according to the size of the dealership. Going up the pyramid there are Vice President and President Awards before getting to the pinnacle which is Dealer of the Year.
The Hino award also takes into consideration a dealership&rsquo;s adoption of the Hino ethos of integrity, contribution, and empathy with the aim of the reward system being to ensure excellent customer experiences at Hino dealerships countrywide.

The dealership underwent a significant transformation in 2017, aligning with Hino South Africa&rsquo;s Total Support strategy. An investment of over R23 million enhanced the facility&rsquo;s infrastructure, positioning it as a key strategic hub in the Western Cape&rsquo;s industrial corridor. The renovations prioritised expanding service and parts capacities, incorporating nine state-of-the-art work bays, including diagnostic and engine repair bays, as well as brake roller testers thereby ensuring every vehicle serviced meets the highest safety standards.
Operational efficiencies have been prioritised through extended servicing hours, including night servicing on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with an average daily throughput of 25 units. A 24-hour standby service guarantees ongoing support, complemented by a mobile service fleet that travels as far as Clanwilliam and Bredasdorp. Off-site service operations cater to large fleet clients, with vehicle checks beginning as early as 06h00 each day.
Led by Dealer Principal Ryno Olivier&mdash;a dedicated professional with 22 years of experience at the dealership&mdash;the team benefits from a strong culture of loyalty and expertise. The staff of 40 is committed to ongoing training and development, ensuring the highest standards of service.

HINO KUILSRIVIER ACHIEVES PRESTIGIOUS FIRST-TIME VICTORY AS HINO DEALER OF THE YEAR

Namib Mills, the largest grain processing company in Namibia, relies on a fleet of Hino trucks for reliability and efficiency in transporting raw materials and finished goods throughout Namibia.
One of the latest additions to the fleet is a Hino 700 2841 truck tractor which is proving its worth in daily operations drawing a three-axle GRW tautliner trailer, handling 28-30 ton payloads along major routes throughout the country. The average fuel consumption of this truck is 2.89 km/l (34.6 l/100 km) and it has an average running cost per kilometre of N$20.07 within the Namib Mills fleet, which is considered most satisfactory.
The Namib Mills fleet includes a diverse mix of 119 Hino trucks, made up of 200, 300 and 500 series models to support its extensive, countrywide logistics and distribution network. Fuel economy and low lifetime operating costs are two of the important reasons that Namib Mills chooses Hino trucks as a key partner in its business.
&ldquo;We also choose Hino trucks because they are competitively priced while offering outstanding reliability and durability with the added benefit of being able to provide excellent after sales service at several dealerships around the country,&rdquo; commented Willem le Roux, Namib Mills&rsquo; Distribution and Logistics Manager.

NAMIB MILLS RELIES ON HINO FOR RELIABILITY AND EFFICIENCY

Hino South Africa has once again answered a call for help from the South African farming community in terms of transporting fodder for urgently needed drought relief. Hino recently provided a 700 2845 truck-tractor from its demonstrator fleet to deliver 34 tons of much-needed fodder from Secunda to Loeriesfontein, a journey of about 1&nbsp;500 km.
&ldquo;Although there has been heavy rain and flooding in many parts of South Africa recently there are still pockets of the country in the fierce grip of a drought, particularly areas in the Northern Cape,&rdquo; explained Gilbert Martin, Founder of &lsquo;We are South Africans&rsquo; and &lsquo;The People of South Africa Foundation NPC&rsquo;, which coordinates many of the local drought relief initiatives.
&ldquo;Loeriesfontein has been hard hit by drought since 2013 and on one occasion the town and its surroundings had no rain for seven years, relying solely on ground water. In certain cases, in these drought stricken areas we sometimes see one part of a farm that is green while other sections are bone dry. This is most distressing for the many small scale livestock farmers living in these areas.
&ldquo;We not only deliver fodder for animals, but also desperately needed food such as potatoes and butternuts into Namaqualand towns such as Springbok, Garries, and Kamieskroon&rdquo;.
&ldquo;Our relationship with Hino South Africa, their dealers, and the Hino Knights goes back to the aftermath of the July 2021 riots. They have subsequently helped us immensely by providing transport and coordinating the delivery of fodder and food to areas hit by floods, drought, and fires. We are most grateful for these helping hands from members of the Hino family,&rdquo; added Martin.
Hino has been involved in many other similar disaster assistance schemes in the past. This included providing a Hino 700 2848 truck tractor on loan for four months in 2021 when the need was transporting fodder to the drought-stricken region around Vanwyksvlei, Boesmanland, and Calvinia. The Hino truck tractor and trailer combination undertook more than 20 trips during this time, covering almost 40&nbsp;000 km.
&ldquo;We are very pleased that we have again been able to assist community organisations in providing food for livestock and the inhabitants of these regions of our country,&rdquo; commented Itumeleng Segage, General Manager of Hino South Africa.
&ldquo;Our parent company, Toyota SA Motors was given significant support from the farming community after it was established in the 1960&rsquo;s. Since Hino, a Toyota Group company, arrived here in 1972 they have also provided reliable and durable transport to the agricultural sector. HINO ONCE AGAIN ANSWERS FARMERS’ CALL FOR HELP

A Hino 15-258&nbsp;500 Series heavy truck, dating back to 2007, which has already covered more than a million kilometres, has begun a new lease in its working life after being sold out of the KwaZulu-Natal-based CPS Seedlings fleet to a Mr Singh to use for collecting and delivering stock for his grocery business in the Midlands area. It has already paid a visit to its previous home where the new owner expressed satisfaction with his purchase.
The truck has been trouble-free over the past 18 years having been regularly serviced and maintained by Hino Pietermaritzburg in its early days, but subsequently the CPS Seedlings account has moved to Hino Pinetown.
&ldquo;This Hino has pulled a pup trailer for at least half its million kilometres in CPS Seedlings&rsquo; service,&rdquo; explained Julian Chaning-Pearce, Managing Director of the Greytown branch of CPS Seedlings. (His brother, Adrian, looks after the Pongola operation). &ldquo;Average fuel consumption has been around 25 l/100 km without the trailer and 31 l/100 km when towing the pup.&rdquo;
The CPS Seedlings fleet consists currently of 13 commercial vehicles based in Greytown, with 12 of them Hino&rsquo;s from 2-12 ton, while at the Pongola branch there are a further four commercial vehicles, of which two are Hino&rsquo;s. In addition, the fleet operates 14 Toyota light commercials.
&ldquo;When asked if he would buy another Hino truck he answered, &ldquo;They are on order all the time!&rdquo;
&ldquo;I can honestly say that transport is the least of our worries when running our business,&rdquo; concluded Chaning-Pearse.
CPS Seedlings was founded in 1985 by Mark Chaning-Pearce, operating in Cato Ridge as a one-person business with one bakkie. The company has now reached its fourth generation of the Chaning-Pearse family. Its current delivery fleet covers a combined one million kilometres annually, while the company has produced and delivered more than 1.8 billion plants in the past 40 years.
CPS Seedlings is a leading wholesaler of vegetable and forestry seedlings to the commercial farming sector, as well as supplying growing mediums such as vermiculite, Perlite, coir, and peat moss to other commercial nurseries across the country. In recent years, the company has branched out into agriculture and now also farms sugar and citrus at its Pongola Farming operations.
