Hino trucks operating around the world are renowned for reliability and durability, but usually they are heavy commercial models and many of them cover more than a million kilometres. However, this is seldom the case with a two-ton truck operating in an urban environment with stop and go driving.
Green&rsquo;s Radiator Service, based in - Johannesburg, has just seen one million kilometres clocked up on its Hino 200 ,4-093 (previously known as a Toyota Dyna). The truck was bought new from Rand Stadium Toyota in The Glen, Johannesburg in 2006.
It has performed reliably ever since, requiring only regular servicing and brake and clutch maintenance in 19 years on the road. None of the major drivetrain components have been replaced and all servicing has been carried out by Hino Isando.
The truck, which still looks incredibly good despite its hard working life, continues doing duty collecting and delivering a wide variety of radiators, intercoolers, charge air coolers for customers in the industrial business sector, including mining, locomotive, generator, and automotive businesses.
Green&rsquo;s Radiator Service&rsquo;s Hino 200 is fitted with a standard drop side body and continues to be in regular use despite an odometer now stuck on 999&nbsp;999 km! It usually has a dedicated driver and over the 19 years only four people have driven this truck, with Samuel Kubheka, a 25-year company veteran, having been at the wheel for the bulk of the distance.
Bradley Green, a director of Green&rsquo;s Radiator Service, says the company has been a loyal supporter of Hino trucks for many years and currently runs three Hino 300-series models &ndash; one each of 714, 816 and 915 &ndash; beside the 200-series 4-093 two tonner in its four-truck fleet.
&ldquo;We are most impressed by the reliability and durability of our Hino trucks and find them well suited to our type of operation and only replace them with a new Hino when necessary,&rdquo; commented Bradley Green.

AMAZING RELIABILITY FROM MILLION KILOMETRE HINO 200 TRUCK

Johannesburg&nbsp;&ndash; In a continued commitment to public safety and customer care, Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) is launching an enhanced Takata Airbag Recall campaign called&nbsp;<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4D_KTHBqSE">Don&rsquo;t Risk it, Fix it</a>. This is not a new recall campaign, but a revitalised initiative to reach vehicle owners who have not yet responded to previous safety notices since 2015.
The Takata airbag recall remains the largest automotive safety recall in history, affecting multiple manufacturers globally. The&nbsp;Don&rsquo;t Risk it, Fix it&nbsp;campaign aims to replace all defective airbag inflators from the following Toyota, Lexus and Hino models:

Despite extensive outreach, 39% of the affected vehicles remain unrepaired, posing a significant risk to South African drivers and passengers alike. The&nbsp;Don&rsquo;t Risk it, Fix it&nbsp;campaign aims to re-engage these vehicle owners through updated communications, simplified repair scheduling, and enhanced community outreach.
Commenting on the&nbsp;Don&rsquo;t Risk it, Fix it&nbsp;campaign, Andrew Kirby, CEO and President of Toyota South Africa Motors emphasised, &ldquo;We are calling on all communities to&nbsp;Don&rsquo;t Risk It, Fix It. This not a new recall, it is an enhanced campaign to ensure that every affected vehicle is accounted for and repaired. Our goal is to remove any existing barriers to continuous action and to make it as easy as possible for owners to get their vehicles fixed - at no cost to them.&rdquo;
Key features of the&nbsp;Don&rsquo;t Risk it, Fix it&nbsp;campaign:

<li>Free safety inspections and repairs in partnership with Toyota&rsquo;s Dealership Network and service centers for convenient repair access.</li>

Toyota South Africa Motors launches Don’t Risk It, Fix It Campaign to reinforce urgent airbag repairs

Hino South Africa came out top in combined customer satisfaction in Datatrack&rsquo;s survey of truck operators in the third quarter of 2025. It has held this coveted position since March 2020.
&ldquo;Our combined score for sales, service and parts was 98.68% and Hino also placed first in both the sales (99.74%) and service (99.78%) segments, which was very satisfying as we compete in an incredibly competitive truck market in South Africa,&rdquo; commented Itumeleng Segage, General manager of Hino South Africa.
&ldquo;These ongoing successes in the extensive Datatrack surveys are a tribute to all those people employed at the 64 Hino dealerships in South Africa as they are in the front line with our customers.
&ldquo;I also wish to commend the exceptional dedication demonstrated by our head office team and our trusted service providers. This is very much a team effort driven by Hino Japan&rsquo;s international strategy of Total Support, which involves building close bonds with all those in the value chain to ultimately ensure customer satisfaction,&rdquo; added Segage.
The quarterly Datatrack surveys which began in 1986, measure responses from more than 30&nbsp;000 fleet owners regarding service levels in the three important aspects that influence truck operations, namely sales, service and parts. Scores in these three disciplines are added up to get a combined score.
The Datatrack survey in South Africa currently measures these three customer disciplines with input from operators of six European trucks, four from Japan, one from India and two from China.

HINO REMAINS NO 1 IN CUSTOMER SATISFACTION AMONG SA’S TRUCK OPERATORS

Jacques Baird, founder and owner of Ruah Transport, has so much confidence in Hino trucks that he only trades them in or sells them when they have clocked 1.2 million kilometres. He started his company in 2007 and bought his first Hino 500 the same year. He was so satisfied with the truck&rsquo;s performance and reliability that he has continued buying Hino&rsquo;s for the next 28 years.
He managed Ruah Transport operation by himself for the first 15 years and recently celebrated the purchase of his 50th Hino.
The first Hino was a 500 Series model 1324 with a GVM of 13 tons and a 240 hp engine. He bought a second Hino in 2008 and a third in 2020. The first truck was only sold in 2017 after it had covered 1.2 million kilometres in 10 years.
&ldquo;I have bought only Hino trucks as I had substantial personal experience driving them as well as managing a fleet where I keep tabs on feedback running costs and downtime. I was so satisfied with the first Hino&rsquo;s I bought that I have not purchased any other brand of truck since those early days,&rdquo; explained Baird. &ldquo;We are not only impressed with the overall reliability and durability of these trucks over many years. But are also very satisfied with the Hino after-sales service.&rdquo;
The latest additions to the Ruah Transport fleet were five 500 Series 1627 freight carrier models with solid panel load boxes. The fleet includes 32 links with Hino 500 1627 freight carriers. All the other trucks are 8-ton freight carriers with solid side load boxes.
New trucks are bought from Hino Honeydew in Johannesburg even though the company&rsquo;s head office is in Heidelberg while Hino Pomona services the trucks in the fleet.
The company transports goods throughout South Africa, as well as in the surrounding countries of Lesotho, Botswana, Namibia and Eswatini. Baird says there are several contracts with big customers, but the fleet is readily available whenever and wherever transport is required.

RUAH TRANSPORT  TRADES ITS HINO TRUCKS AT 1.2 MILLION KM

Steady progress is being made with the integration of two Japanese truck and bus manufacturers, Hino Motors and Mitsubishi Fuso. The new holding company under which the Hino and Fuso brands will operate has been named Archion. It will have its headquarters in Tokyo, and it is planned to start business operations as Archion on 1 April 2026.
The two brands will continue to operate independently as Hino Motors and Mitsubishi Fuso with the aim of the integration of the two companies being &ldquo;Delivering the future of commercial mobility&rdquo; with the focus on the customer and developing sustainable transportation solutions.
The potential synergies that have been identified include an &ldquo;Integrated Platform Strategy&rdquo; which will drive product enhancement, portfolio expansion, scale advantages, and investment efficiency. It will also optimise production variations and accelerate technology development.
Archion will combine the two component companies&rsquo; strengths in research and development, procurement, production, and logistics. The aim is to consolidate production in Japan into three locations by the end of 2028.
