Hino South Africa is recalling certain Hino 500 Series trucks sold between 2017 and 2024 to ensure that affected vehicles are equipped with the correct spanner required to release the parking brake mechanically should it not release normally.

The recall affects a total of 6,739 vehicles:

  • 77 imported units were delivered without the specific spanner included in the onboard toolkit.
  • 6,662 locally assembled SKD (Semi Knocked Down) models were fitted with an incorrect version of the spanner, which must now be replaced with the correct spanner.

There have been no reported complaints from operators regarding the issue. The company is taking this step proactively to maintain the highest standards of safety and operational readiness across its products.

Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted and invited to bring their trucks to an authorised Hino dealership, where the toolkit will be inspected and the correct spanner installed at no cost.
